Chapter 19 - New Job

Sparks’ Viewpoint

I received a call, while concluding my transaction with a rich guy in Denver. He now had the furred mutant Gatecrasher that I had captured at Medicine Bow National Forest. Too bad the sucker had killed some other people while up in the mountains. Hopefully, they would lock his furry behind away permanently.

Once I verified that the money transfer was complete, I left the police and rich guy to deal with the furball. I sat down on my quad-fan flight cycle that Jazz had built, and checked the message.

It was from Jazz, "Sparks, come back to Metrocity ASAP. I've got a new job for us. It appears that an assassin is in town, and there's a good bounty on his butt."

I entered my security code, and used my ability to flow energy into the cycle. Then, I lifted off, and cranked up the speed on the way back to Metrocity. I used my helmet phone to call Jazz.

She picked up, "This better be my favorite blonde."

I smiled, "I dyed my hair pink; just to piss you off, Jazz."

"You better not!"

"What do you got against pink hair?"

"Nothing, you just look better blonde. You got my message, I take it?"

"Yup."

"How'd it go out there?"

"Great. I think I need a wider beam gun, though. Stupid mutant didn't die from a shot right through his head, side to side."

"You shot him through the head?"

"Well, yeah. He had his paws all over me. I had to."

"Gotta watch that, they won't like it if we turn the marks in dead very often."

"Yeah, yeah, says the nerd in a safe room filled with toys."

She gave me a raspberry over the phone. "You wanted the dangerous stuff, 'sides, I'd suck in the field."

I laughed, "You would. I bet you would have tried to pet this last guy."

"I don't know about that. I did see the video feed on him, he was pretty Chewbacca, and not in a good way."

"Says you. I had to carry his furry butt over the cycle from the park to Denver. He wasn't even wearing shorts."

"Oh my gosh! He had a bare butt?"

"A furry bare butt. It was so not pretty."

"So was he...?"

"Are you serious? I didn't look! He looked like Bigfoot!"

"Fine, I'll look at the camera records."

"Yuck, go right ahead. You need help."

"Well, the next one's not furry. In fact, the few pics we've got of him show him to be hairless."

"He's bald?"

"Righto."

"Better than furry. So what's the gig?"

"The guy's done assassinations all around the world, he's a pro. He mostly sticks to the east coast of the U.S., but isn't selective. He's a super that blasts ice."

"Good thing you made this armor."

"Righto. It should protect from extreme cold."

"I thought we weren't harmed by cold anyway?"

"You won't be bothered by above freezing temperatures, but this guy is known to be able to almost instantly freeze someone."

"Nasty."

"Listen, this isn't some new super. He's got probably a decade of experience behind him. Be careful."

"Always am."

"Uh huh. Liar. I built a gadget for you that detects extreme cold, below what you would find in a freezer.
